Perhaps unsurprisingly, cities that require the highest income are large urban coastal hubs where homes tend to be more expensive. Rite Aid filed plans to close 154 stores on Monday as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Rite Aid is the smallest of the three major drugstore chains, well behind CVS and Walgreens. Rite Aid was expected to close stores as part of its bankruptcy. The US housing shortage makes it especially hard for middle-income buyers to purchase homes. But there's some good news, at least in the data: There are still a few US metros where affordable homes remain available to middle-income buyers. According to the NAR and Realtor.com analysis, among the 100 largest US metros, three areas from Ohio: Youngstown, Akron, and Toledo have the most affordable homes available for middle-income buyers. Overall, the US housing market is short 6.5 million homes. In general, homes in the low- to mid-priced range should be more plentiful in "relatively more affordable areas," than in the expensive areas, the economists wrote in the report.

These would-be buyers face the most severe housing shortage of any other income bracket, according to a new analysis from the National Association of Realtors and Realtor.com that found the market is short more than 300,000 affordable homes for these buyers. Given that income, these buyers can purchase homes valued up to $256,000 without being overburdened with housing costs. Middle-income buyers can afford to buy less than a quarter — only 23% — of listings that are currently on the market. In a balanced market, buyers earning $75,000 can afford to purchase 66% of the listings in the Youngstown metro area. However, these buyers would be able to afford to buy more than 50% of the listings in a balanced market.

Leroy Raffel , a co-founder of the Arby’s restaurant chain who teamed up with his older brother Forrest Raffel in 1964 to take on McDonald’s and other hamburger chains with a much pricier roast-beef sandwich, died Tuesday at the age of 96. The Raffel brothers ran a supplier of restaurant equipment in Youngstown, Ohio, in the early 1960s. They saw that many of their customers, independent local eateries, were imperiled by the rise of national chains, some of which were then offering hamburgers for around 15 cents, the current equivalent of about $1.45.

The derailment of the Norfolk Southern operated train in East Palestine on Feb. 3 forced thousands of residents to evacuate while railroad crews drained and burned off toxic chemicals. They asked the judge to give their experts more time before Norfolk Southern removes and destroys the wreckage, which was slated to start on Wednesday. She asked whether Norfolk Southern could remove low-priority cars to an offsite storage location for later inspection, or if other options were available. The EPA on Saturday announced it was temporarily pausing Norfolk Southern's shipment of material from the crash site, but promised those efforts would resume soon.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources said the chemical spill resulting from the derailment had killed an estimated 3,500 small fish across 7½ miles of streams as of Wednesday. For some people who live near the derailment site, the reports continue to spur fear that they and their animals might be exposed to chemicals through the air, water and soil. The Ohio Department of Agriculture said the risk to livestock remains low.
